Are you suffering from the doldrums of what seems like the everlasting winter? Tired of the cold, grey, dreary weather? Cyprus is a very sunny island where midwinter still averages over 6 hours of sunshine and temperatures remain around the mid-60’s F (17-19 C). For those who find the high summer temperatures too much to bear, the best time to visit Cyprus may indeed be the winter months where the beaches, countryside and many attractions can be selfishly enjoyed without the crowds of summer season tourists.

Cyprus is the sunniest and hottest island in the Mediterranean and is an ideal choice for a winter sun holiday. The nature comes alive in winter and for those who enjoy walking, you will have the opportunity to walk in some of the most spectacular landscapes, either on your own or with one of the organized walking groups which are available. Cyprus is a melting pot of Turkish influences in the north and Greek culture in the south which is emphasized in the winter months as most European tourists are unaware that Cyprus is an idyllic winter sun destination.

Do not be surprised to see people moving about in shorts and t-shirt as late as December. This is the time when residents enjoy working in their gardens and addressing outdoor DIY matters as these activities are more difficult and tiresome due to the summer heat and water shortages. The winter temperature in Cyprus is mild, the sky is mainly blue, the clouds are high, and the views from our terrace are some of the most panoramic and unobstructed views of the Mediterranean you will find on the island.

When it does rain in winter, you will find that it rains hard and quickly over with birds chirping to welcome the sun back to the colourful landscape. You may need to dawn on a pair of wellies or waterproof shoes, but the sun will come back out as intense as before instantly reminding you why you chose Cyprus for your winter sun holiday despite the occasional set back in the weather.

Historic monasteries, medieval castles, olive and lemon groves all adorn this jewel of the Mediterranean that can be enjoyed in winter without the crowds and often at reduced rates compared to the more crowded summer months. The more active traveler can still enjoy the beaches, windsurfing, scuba diving, first class golf courses, mountain or quad biking, sailing, hiking, karting and boating in the winter. The 5 x 10 meter family sized swimming pool at Esentepe Seaview Villa is heated by an energy efficient HeatSiphon™ heat pump. We keep our swimming pool operating year round so if you prefer lap swimming as part of your exercise routine don’t let the winter obstruct you. Our villa is also equipped with a full size backup diesel generator on automatic transfer panel. So if you have heard about the winter power cuts on the island, rest assured that your holiday will not be interrupted at our villa. Winter nighttime temperatures can drop into the mid-40’s (8-10 C) so our villa has been equipped with a fireplace with thermostatically controlled insert to enjoy those cooler nights. Also rest assured that every room in the villa is equipped with remote controlled heating units to ensure you enjoy a comfortable night’s rest.

Is there anything essential you will need for a winter holiday at our villa? We would recommend you pack a windbreaker or waterproof jacket with a couple of sweaters for the cooler nights and perhaps a pair of wellies or waterproof shoes if you intend to trek outdoors each day during your winter sun holiday. Equally important, be sure to take your sunglasses, shorts and t-shirts along too as there is a high probability that you will get the chance to wear them!
